Seven Highlanders Named to Great West Conference Fall 2008 All-Academic Team

-- Seven NJIT student-athletes in three sports were named to the Fall 2008 Great West Conference all-Academic team, commissioner Ed Grom announced today.

 

The honorees were: Cara Constantino and Daisy Gallegos in women's cross country; Sabrina Baby, Katrina Hornstein and Erica Schultz in women's volleyball; and, Erika Taugher and Christi Taylor in women's soccer.

 

Here is a list of the recipients in alphabetical order:

 

Sabrina Baby (women's volleyball; junior; Florianopolis, Brazil) … business administration major; cumulative GPA 3.910 … team captain … helped the women's volleyball team reach a milestone 18 wins, the most for NJIT women's volleyball since 1990 … reliable defensive player and outstanding server who appeared in every match in 2008, registering 524 digs and 43 service aces.

 

Cara Constantino (women's cross country; junior; Bloomfield, NJ)  … architecture major; Albert Dorman Honors College; 3.744 cumulative GPA … has been on the dean's list four times … part of a team of students that took first place in the design portion of the 2008 NJIT Masonry Design/Build competition … captain of the women's cross country team … placed 42nd at the Great West Conference cross country championships.

 

Daisy Gallegos (women's cross country; sophomore; Jersey City, NJ) … information technology major; 3.717 cumulative GPA … finished 46th at the Great West Conference cross country championships.

 

Katrina Hornstein (women's volleyball; junior; Duluth, MN) … mechanical engineering major; Albert Dorman Honors College; 3.884 cumulative GPA … … helped the women's volleyball team reach a milestone 18 wins, the most for NJIT women's volleyball since 1990 … versatile and committed player who appeared in every mach recording 292 digs and 227 kills.

 

Erica Schultz (women's volleyball; junior; Wildomar, CA) … business major; 3.269 cumulative GPA … … helped the women's volleyball team reach a milestone 18 wins, the most for NJIT women's volleyball since 1990 … piled up 797 assists and163 digs in 2008.

 

Erika Taugher (women's soccer; graduate student; Oakville, Ontario, Canada) … master's in international business; Albert Dorman Honors College; 4.00 cumulative GPA … completed her BS in mechanical engineering in 2008 and was a dean's list student each year as an undergraduate … Taugher led the 2008 Highlanders with three goals, four assists and 10 points, finishing her career as the NJIT leader in all three categories, plus career games (72); she finished with 16 career goals, 15 career assists and 47 career points.

 

Christi Taylor (women's soccer; sophomore; Hackensack, NJ) … mathematics major; Albert Dorman Honors College; 3.289 cumulative GPA; appeared in every game (19), starting 15.

 

Selection to the team requires that the student-athlete achieve a minimum cumulative 3.2 grade point average and have participated in at least 50% of the contests.  Student-athletes were selected based on their most recent GPA.
